This piece is based on a ceiling I studied during a visit to the Château de Chantilly in France, specifically in the corridor connecting the Vestibule of Honour to the Chapel. The coffered pattern, repetition, and subtle material variations immediately stood out to me, and I wanted to recreate that balance between structure and ornament.
=================================
I didn’t aim for a strict reproduction. Instead, I used the original as a strong reference and adjusted proportions, materials, and contrast to better fit a real-time rendering context. I took some liberties with the wood treatment to make it more visually interesting.
Pushing variation, contrast, and breakup to avoid flat, uniform surfaces while keeping it believable.
=================================
The same approach was applied to the fabric/panel sections between the wooden frames. I reworked their look compared to the reference, aiming for something richer and more readable, giving them tapestry aspect, which felt more interesting visually while still fitting the overall aesthetic.

I’d like to give special thanks to Vadim Tougeron for his feedback and ideas that helped improve this material!
